“Carlsbad: The New Energy Frontier” is the theme for the 2017 Carlsbad Mayor’s Energy Summit, set for Oct. 16, 2017, at the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center (4012 National Parks Highway) in Carlsbad.

“Carlsbad has increasingly become a critical component of our nation’s energy effort,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. “The focus of this year’s summit will be a continued look toward the future of the energy industry in this area.”

The summit, now in its 5th year, will focus on economic growth and the future of the energy industry in Southeastern New Mexico. The free event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 20 vendor booths will provide information and giveaways during the summit.  The annual event draws more than 1,200 guests yearly and has featured speakers including billionaire T. Boone Pickens, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and oil and gas expert Antoine Halff.

“Of course, many of our guests are also extremely excited about our famous lunch, provided by Lynn and Kimberly Ballard,” Janway continued. “This event is only possible due to our extremely generous sponsors, especially our members of the oil and gas industry.”

Speakers this year include author Bob McNally, Founder and President of the Rapidan Group; Tim McIlwain, Senior Vice President, Production Operations of XTO Energy; Ryan Flynn, Executive Director of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association; Clay Bretches, President and CEO of Sendero Midstream Partners; and Melissa Trevino, Energy Manager with the Occidental Petroleum Corporation.

While the event is free, those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by calling (575) 887-3798 or emailing mayor.office@cityofcarlsbadnm.com. More information is also available at www.cityofcarlsbadnm.com/energysummit.cfm.

A job fair, hosted by the Carlsbad Department of Development, was added to this year’s program. The fair will take place from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the same location.

“This is going to be the first time we have held a job fair at the summit, and we think it will fit in well with the program,” said Shannon Carr, Development Coordinator with the Carlsbad Department of Development. “If you are looking for a new position, please attend and don’t forget to bring a smile and a résumé!”
