Albertsons' new 60,000 square foot market opened to the public Wednesday.

The market offers a salad bar, full-service meat and seafood counter, a large floral department, a drive-up pharmacy and a full-service Starbucks.

Customers were treated to a more expansive selection of goods at the new location which also features in-door and outdoor seating for diners.

"We've got a vastly expanded deli food service, it's restaurant food people. We've got a dining area for you to sit in, you can take it out," said United Family Executive Vice President Tony Crumpton.

The store also features a Ready Meals Program, which Crumpton said is a nutritious, chef- inspired menu.

For those customers who wish for an easy supermarket experience, the market offers online ordering with curbside pickup.

In attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony was The United Family President Robert Taylor.

The United Family is the division of Albertsons Companies that operates Albertsons markets in New Mexico.

To accommodate the larger facility, 100 new employees were hired.

"The construction going on at Albertsons over the last few months has been the talk of the town," said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. "Everyone involved in the construction and all the contractors should be very proud of what you've accomplished here today.

"We've all enjoyed driving by and seeing this project come to life before our eyes."

Ground was broken on the new store in January.

Just a few hundred feet away, the old Albertsons still stands; demolition is expected to begin sometime within the next two weeks to make room for expanded customer parking.
