Coyote Flats RV Park to Open in Carlsbad, New Mexico

21 Jul 2020

Carlsbad, NM, July, 2020 – Coyote Flats RV Park is set to open for business in August, 2020.  The 335 space park is brand new to Carlsbad, and will feature state of the art amenities. The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) has been working with the RV Park’s owners for several months.

Eddy County was found to be the leading county in New Mexico in business growth, according to financial consulting firm SmartAsset. The study, provided to the Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD), looked at the number of new businesses, GDP growth, and building permits in counties across New Mexico. Eddy County, in which Carlsbad is situated, topped New Mexico with a 7% business growth rate and a business growth index of an incoming investment index of 61.86. View the SmartAsset report here.

The 334 space park will feature hard wired internet spaces to provide stellar connectivity to the guests/residents.  Other high quality amenities include laundry and shower facilities to service the guest needs. The park’s manager says they did their homework before setting everything up.

“Exterior wireless internet at other parks does not function well to penetrate the RV metal exteriors.  We believe we have solved that challenge by investing in hard-wired service for the whole park,” said Mark Mervine, manager of Coyote Flats. “We seek to be a strategic partner to the retail community given our RV community size and guests with resources to spend liberally for convenience.”

Despite a downturn in the oil industry in recent months, and the outbreak of COVID-19, Carlsbad has maintained low unemployment and a vibrant economy. Through May, the unemployment rate for the greater Carlsbad area was just 5.6% after going up to 6.1% in April. In March of this year, the rate was 3.1%. The various industries in Carlsbad and Eddy County help keep the unemployment numbers relatively low even during trying times.

“Carlsbad’s unemployment has remained low despite the recent downturn in the economy, and our community is uniquely positioned to rebound stronger than ever,” said Carlsbad’s Mayor Dale Janway. “We support high-quality RV parks and similar facilities who represent growth in our economy.”

Strong industrial diversity has led to Eddy County leading the way in growth for the state. The market relies on more than just one industry, to include nuclear, potash, manufacturing, retail, oil and gas, aviation, and construction. Several of these have flourished lately, as the community has seen an influx of new businesses. Commercially, retail and restaurant businesses have added to the market mix as well.

Carlsbad has seen a boom in several areas of growth over the past five years. Industries like oil and gas, manufacturing, and aviation have seen many new businesses enter the market. Commercially, the retail and restaurant side of the coin have also been growing quickly, with new construction taking place across the city.

The Carlsbad Department of Development is the economic development agency for the City of Carlsbad and Eddy County, New Mexico.
