The Carlsbad City Council approved more than $2 million in funding requests from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (ENMRD) for the Carlsbad Brine Well Remediation project.
Councilors approved $1.33 million and $800,000 to match state funds appropriated by the New Mexico Legislature during the 2020 session.
In a memo from City Administrator John Lowe to City Councilors, he wrote that ENMRD requested state lawmakers to allow the final $10 million in state funds be made available in fiscal year 2020, rather than fiscal year 2021.
