CARLSBAD, NM, July 2015 - Legendary businessman T. Boone Pickens will participate in the 2015 Southeastern New Mexico Energy Summit, scheduled for Sept. 14 at the Carlsbad Civic Center, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway announced today.

Pickens, dubbed the “Oracle of Oil” by CNBC, built one of the nation’s largest independent oil companies, Mesa Petroleum, and later reinvented himself in his 70s as a successful investment fund operator. In July 2008, he launched the Pickens Plan, a grass-roots campaign aimed at reducing this country’s crippling addiction to OPEC oil. That year, he also published The First Billion is the Hardest, in which he detailed what America must do to win back its energy security.

“We’re just overjoyed by this,” announced Mayor Janway. “These annual energy summits began three years ago as a coffee conversation, and now look at where we are. We’re just so honored to have an internationally esteemed businessman join us at this event.”

The day-long, free summit will include panel discussions and presentations related to the economic future of the region’s energy industry. Pickens is expected to present prior to the event’s lunch break. In addition to Pickens, experts from the area’s oil and gas, potash and nuclear industries will also participate in the discussion.

“I think the overall message is tell us what’s going on,” Janway explained. “Where are these industries right now, where will they be in the future, and how can we as a community plan?”

Summit participation includes a free steak luncheon, the signature meal of the annual event. Registration is limited, so please call Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway’s office at (575) 887-3798.

The 2015 Southeastern New Mexico Energy Summit is being supported through the generosity of numerous sponsors. Pickens’ visit to the energy summit in Carlsbad has specifically been made possible by Mesa Natural Gas Solutions, LLC, which provides clean, reliable electric power to the oil and gas industry by utilizing inexpensive natural gas directly from the wellhead, along with support from Lifteck International, Inc., Blue Roads Solutions, LLC, and Pinnacle Midstream, LLC.

At a time in life when many businessmen are concentrating on the golf course and ship cruises, T. Boone Pickens remains a dynamic force in his industry, as evidenced by his fellow Dallas chief executives selecting him as DCEO magazine’s 2013 CEO of the Year. Pickens’ many professional honors also include membership in the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. In 1998, the Oil & Gas Investorlisted him as one of the “100 Most Influential People of the Petroleum Century.” During the span of his career, Pickens has given away more than $1 billion to philanthropic causes.
