January 2017 - Santa Fe, NM - Representatives from the Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD), along with several city and county elected officials and leaders, made the annual visit to Santa Fe as part of the Eddy County legislative trip. Teams met with various state departments, including the New Mexico Economic Development Department, the New Mexico Film office, the Governor, and others.

One of the biggest topics on the agenda for Carlsbad is that of the brine well potential collapse. Senator Caroll Leavell and Representative Cathrynn Brown each introduced legislation to acquire financial aid to remediate the brine well before its impending collapse. Each official's bills passed initial hearings during the legislative visit.

One of the highlights of the trip occurred when the group met with Governor Susana Martinez. While covering key areas of concern with the Governor, a special meeting took place with local youth from the New Mexico Skills program and the Early College High School. Governor Martinez asked several of the teens questions about school, and encouraged all in attendance to keep promoting the future through teens and programs like those encountered.

Each year the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the CDOD, and local elected officials plan the Eddy County Legislative trip to meet with elected officials at the State.
